A Tibagi farm stores surplus solar in batteries

Until now, the poultry farm in Tibagi, Paraná, had had solar generation since 2019 and shut down during outages, which have lasted as long as 72 hours. With the one-year pilot by Sistema FAEP, IDR-Paraná and WEG, surplus solar output is now stored in batteries to keep the refrigeration of fertile eggs from 50,000 birds running.

The post does not state under which regulatory framework these batteries operate. The federal framework in force is ANEEL Normative Resolution 1,161, of 2 June 2026, which governs the authorisation of storage systems as undertakings, according to FIERGS Technical Communication No. 56, of 25 June 2026. Its scope is the authorised undertaking, not the battery behind the meter.

Without a defined framework, the pilot measures equipment cost and does not measure regulatory risk. A state interest subsidy built on this result prices the investment before knowing which rule will govern the asset on the roughly 50,000 rural properties with solar generation in the state.

The framework for behind-the-meter storage is the variable that defines the reach of RenovaPR for batteries.
