SunHydrogen passes 10% solar-to-hydrogen efficiency

SunHydrogen reported that its modules exceeded 10% solar-to-hydrogen efficiency in tests with Australia's Sparc Hydrogen. The two signed a 24-month collaboration and intend to take the trials to the SHARP pilot, in Roseworthy, Australia.

The post does not state what revenue is contracted and for how long. The agreement gives Sparc an 18-month option to negotiate long-term supply or a manufacturing licence, that is, a right to negotiate, not a contract. The International Energy Agency, in the Global Hydrogen Review 2025, records that projects with a final investment decision represent 9% of the global pipeline announced for 2030 and that signed offtake agreements fell from 2.4 to 1.7 million tonnes per year in 2024.

Without a firm buyer, the cost of development up to the field phase remains in the two companies' cash, and the techno-economic assessment provided for in the agreement estimates the cost per kilogram without anchored demand.

The term and volume of the offtake contract are the variable that separates the bench result from the financeable project.
