A BRL 7.4 billion data centre in Baixo Guandu
Investors are developing a hyperscale data centre in Baixo Guandu (ES) with a projected investment of BRL 7.4 billion and an initial 100 MW, according to a post by Ricardo Frizera. The site exceeds 11 million m², close to a hydroelectric plant and the Belo Horizonte-Vitória fibre route. The project will be presented to clients in São Paulo, New York and Shanghai.
In a data centre, assets age at different rates. In its 10-K for fiscal year 2025, Amazon reports that it reduced the estimated useful life of part of its servers and networking equipment from six to five years, from 1 January 2025, because of the pace of artificial intelligence. The effect was USD 1.4 billion of additional depreciation in the year.
Servers turn over in a few years. Land, grid connection, water and fibre remain and carry the asset from one generation of chips to the next. Folha Vitória notes that the effective supply of energy and water at the site has yet to be proven.
That is the next milestone. Equipment can be replaced. Guaranteed infrastructure sustains the value.
