From the international battery price to installed CAPEX in Brazil
Marcio Takata, CEO of Greener, draws attention to the gap between the international price of batteries and the CAPEX of a BESS installed in Brazil, which includes freight, exchange rate, import taxes, customs clearance, complementary equipment, engineering, installation and commissioning. Greener's new study will be presented in a webinar on 5 November.
The fall abroad is significant. According to BloombergNEF's annual survey of 9 December 2025, battery packs for stationary storage cost an average of USD 70 per kWh in 2025, 45% below 2024. The overall average was USD 108 per kWh, with China at USD 84 and North America and Europe 44% and 56% higher.
When the pack gets cheaper and the exchange rate or tax rises, the difference is absorbed by the investor who closed the budget before the purchase. The risk migrates from the equipment to the part of the cost that does not follow the international market.
The step within the developer's reach is to lock in exchange rate and scope early and to separate in the budget what is battery from what is implementation. That is where the global fall becomes a gain for the Brazilian project.
