Inverter replacement at GD I plants and acquired rights

Replacing an inverter at a GD I plant does not entail automatic loss of grandfathered rights, provided there is no increase in approved installed capacity. The publication of 19 August 2026 points to REN 1,000/2021, as amended by REN 1,059/2023, as the rule on expansion.

What is left out is the asset's residual value against the regulatory horizon. Law 14,300 of 6 January 2022 guarantees, in Article 26, the previous compensation rules until 31 December 2045 and, in §2, item III, removes the right over the portion of capacity increase requested after the legal deadline. That is more than two decades of regulatory contract on equipment that goes out of production sooner.

The consequence shows on the balance sheet. The asset is valued on compensation revenue until 2045, but depends on successive replacements, each subject to review by the distribution utility. If the replacement is read as an expansion, the additional portion moves to GD II or GD III and projected revenue falls without the project having changed.

The value of a GD I plant is decided by the traceability of approved capacity at each equipment replacement until 2045.
