Process residue boilers and the NR-13 rule

Process waste weighs twice on industry's accounts: in disposal and in the energy that goes unused. Heat Boiler, a boiler manufacturer, has published a 30-second video with this thesis, cites 30 years of activity and invites industry to calculate the savings from converting waste into heat.

The technical framework comes from the standard. NR-13, as worded by MTP Ordinance 1,846, of 1 July 2022, requires periodic safety inspection every 12 months for category A and B boilers without their own inspection service, under the responsibility of a qualified professional, and an operator with a 40-hour course and 80 hours of supervised practice in category A.

This cost accompanies the equipment throughout its service life. The standard grants longer intervals to those who invest in control: up to 30 months in category B with combustion management and up to 48 months in category A with in-house inspection and an instrumented system.

The savings from waste are measured over the life of the boiler. Those who plan inspection, operator and instrumentation from the design stage preserve the gain for longer.
