Batteries in Brazil move from talk to project
The Brazilian battery market has moved from conversation to the project phase. Marcio Takata, CEO of Greener, wrote that the challenge is to turn interest into technically sound and viable projects, starting from the customer's need, which may be demand reduction, operational continuity, better use of solar generation or power quality.
On the regulatory side, the path is already defined. ANEEL regulated battery storage systems through Normative Resolution 1,161/2026 and advises that the authorisation request be filed in the agency's digital system with technical studies, environmental licences and connection contracts.
This changes the order of commercial work. The need defines the application, the application defines the system's power and energy, and it is this pair that determines which authorisation and connection procedure the project faces, with its own timeline and cost.
For integrators and industrial consumers, viability now includes the regulatory calendar, not just the system price. Those who establish need, application and procedure at the same stage shorten the path between proposal and energy delivered.
