Ballard announced on 7 October 2026 a 4.8 MW order from Siemens Mobility: 24 FCrail 200 kW fuel cell modules for 12 Mireo Plus H trains destined for Romania's Railway Reform Authority. Deliveries are scheduled for 2027 and 2028, with passenger service expected in 2029.

Siemens Mobility's release of 28 April 2026 on the same contract states maintenance with an initial term of 15 years, extendable by a further 15, operation on non-electrified lines and a dedicated depot in Bucharest.

That is the difference between selling equipment and entering a life-cycle business. The 4.8 MW order is revenue for 2027 and 2028; the 15-year maintenance term, extendable, is what carries the return and ties spare parts and performance to two decades.

For Romania, the open question is hydrogen supply on the lines served, and the long maintenance contract is what keeps the manufacturer accountable for the fleet while that is settled.
