ONS at the artificial intelligence forum

A system operator produces as much data as dispatch. The ONS reported that Carlos Alexandre Prado, executive adviser to the Directorate of IT, Agent Relations and Regulatory Affairs, took part on 30 September in an executive public-sector forum in Brasília and highlighted the launch of Tiago Dados Abertos and Tiago MCP.

The move follows federal policy. The Brazilian Artificial Intelligence Plan, launched in July 2024, provides for BRL 23 billion by 2028 and, among its targets, mapping 2,000 public databases by 2027 and training 115,000 civil servants by 2026.

For those developing generation projects, the gain is not in the acronym but in the cost of obtaining information. Operational data in machine-queryable format shortens the assessment of curtailment, outflow margin and constraint history, work that usually consumes hours of analyst time per location studied.

The measure of the result will be practical. If consultancies, financiers and developers start consulting the same operator database, divergences in assumptions between connection study and business plan will narrow, and the discussion moves from the number to the decision.
