Solar at 49.5% of the grid load at noon
In previous years, the Brazilian solar sector's discussion was about expanding supply. On 23 August 2026, at 12:01, solar generation recorded by ONS reached 35,124.5 MW, around 49.5% of the load of the National Interconnected System, and the Operator triggered, for the second time this year, the Energy Surplus Management Plan for the Distribution Network.
The article does not say what happens to the curtailed generator's revenue between the construction outlay and settlement. In XP Investimentos' Radar Energia of 14 July 2026, based on a Megawhat survey, the first triggering of the plan, on 7 June, reduced the generation of Type III plants by up to 1,955 average MW between 12:00 and 13:00.
A Type III plant is connected outside the basic network and is not centrally scheduled by the Operator. The capital has already been spent and the energy stops being generated at the hour of highest output. Without a defined compensation rule, curtailment becomes a direct deduction from the revenue that would service the debt.
The distributed generator's cash now depends on the hour at which energy is curtailed.
