On 30 October Cemig opened registrations for Cycle 2 of Inova Cemig Tec 3.0, a research, development and innovation call with planned investment of BRL 200 million. There are 12 challenges, with registrations until 31 January 2027 and selection by July 2027.

The call requires projects that reach TRL 9 and meet the indicators of ANEEL Normative Resolution 1,074/2023. According to Canal Solar, the rule assesses the utilities' RD&I by key results of the 2024 to 2028 innovation plan, and the investment is only approved in full if the portfolio achieves 85% of the targets.

This changes the type of proposal that stands a chance. An isolated proof of concept weighs less than a project with a path to operation and economic viability. The call is non-competitive: more than one project may qualify per challenge.

Market opening, payment default and electric vehicle charging are among the challenges. Those who arrive with an implementation plan and a budget per stage come out ahead. The funding exists. The yardstick is the result in the field.
