Hitachi Energy expands its Guarulhos transformer plant
Demand for transformers is growing with electrification, renewables and data centres. On Thursday (22), Hitachi Energy inaugurated the expansion of its Guarulhos (SP) factory, with capacity almost 50% higher, according to Canal Solar. The company also has Blumenau (SC) and is building Pindamonhangaba (SP).
The bottleneck is documented. In the report Building the Future Transmission Grid, of 25 February 2025, the IEA records that a large power transformer can take up to four years to obtain, a lead time that has almost doubled since 2021, with prices around 75% higher. Supply is concentrated in a few top-tier suppliers.
One more local factory shortens the distance between order and energisation, and changes procurement planning for power plants and substations. Part of the output, however, is destined abroad: in March the company announced that Pindamonhangaba will export to North America, Europe and the Middle East.
What now counts for each project is the queue: how much of the new capacity serves the country, and with what delivery lead time. Reserving equipment early remains part of project design.
