Fundo Clima finances up to 100% of locally made batteries
BNDES has begun financing through the Fundo Clima up to 100% of the eligible items of battery projects that meet routes 2, 3 or 4 of the domestic manufacturing accreditation, according to Canal Solar. These routes require part of the pack manufacturing to take place in Brazil.
The percentage has a frame. At an event on 11 September 2026 reported by TAGD Advogados, Alexandre Siciliano Esposito, of BNDES, said that the Fundo Clima covers up to 100% of eligible items with a limit of 80% of total capex, excluding imported equipment, land and vehicles, and with a ceiling of BRL 1 billion per economic group over 12 months. He estimated demand of up to BRL 34 billion in incentivised lines, a figure that depends on the 2027 Budget.
Under the routes described by Agência iNFRA, route 2 calls for light pack assembly, route 3 for module assembly and route 4 for cell assembly, a stage that does not yet exist in the country.
The ceiling per group pushes large portfolios towards combinations with BNDES Mais Inovação and market funding. The choice of an accredited supplier comes to define the cost of capital from the outset.
