Crusoe and Araico next to the Itaipu substation
Crusoe, an American AI infrastructure company, announced on 22 October 2026 a partnership with the Paraguayan company Araico to install high-performance computing next to the Itaipu substation, on the Paraguayan side. The first phase is scheduled for mid-2027, according to the reposted publication, which cites g1.
Crusoe's announcement adds scale: a path to 106 MW of IT capacity and a long-term option of around 280 MW in total. Revenue will come from Crusoe Cloud customers in the United States and Latin America. The text consulted does not mention an energy contract or ANDE, and does not state an investment amount.
According to the publication, Itaipu stated that the energy follows the 1973 treaty, with 50% for each country. On the revenue side, the computing capacity has yet to be sold to customers; on the cost side, supply depends on a contract the announcement does not describe.
The announcement sets scale and timing. The energy contract, with tariff and duration, is the document that turns the 280 MW option into a financeable asset.
