Carrefour, GreenYellow and WEG put solar on 54 stores

Carrefour Brasil contracted GreenYellow in June to solarise 54 stores under the energy-as-a-service model. Now WEG has been announced as the project's technology partner, according to Canal Solar: around 38 MWp, an estimated 56 GWh per year and, on average, more than 30% of the units' consumption, in a grid zero configuration, with no injection into the grid.

A single technology partner for 54 systems standardises design, parts and maintenance. It also concentrates dependence on one supplier, in a market where the cost of imported equipment changes by government decision: Gecex Resolution 666, of 12 November 2024, set the general import duty rate on photovoltaic modules at 25%, in force since 13 November 2024.

In the contracted model, it is GreenYellow that finances the capex and the operation. The choice of supplier defines, for it, replacement lead time and exposure to exchange rates and tariffs over the life of the contract.

In grid zero, the plant is worth what the store consumes at that instant. Available equipment is savings; a part out of service is energy bought from the grid.
