Koloma seeks two natural hydrogen contracts in the Philippines
Koloma Inc., a natural hydrogen company, is seeking two more service contracts in the Philippines after initial survey results, according to Energy Secretary Sharon Garin on 8 October 2026. The firm already holds contracts awarded in October 2025 and signed Service Contract No. 92 in July 2026, with exclusive rights over more than 4,100 km2 in Central Luzon and western Zambales.
Geoffrey Ellis and Sarah Gelman, of the USGS, in a paper in Science Advances dated 13 December 2024, put the most probable in-place geologic hydrogen resource at about 5.6 million Mt, warn that most of it is likely impractical to recover, and calculate that a small fraction would supply projected net-zero hydrogen demand for roughly 200 years.
Exclusive acreage is not a reserve. The reported work is 2D seismic and geoscience assessment, with no volume, concentration or flow test disclosed. Between that stage and first revenue sit drilling, production testing, a commerciality declaration and offtake infrastructure.
The signal here is commercial before it is geological: asking for more acreage says the operator reads its own data as favourable. The figure that changes the appraisal is the first flow-tested well in Luzon.
