Tramontina joins wind self-generation at Maral I and II
Six companies of the Tramontina group are joining TotalEnergies' Maral I and Maral II wind projects, in a transaction approved by Cade on 18 August 2026 and aimed at self-generation. The amount negotiated and the planned capacity were not disclosed, and the plants are not yet in operation.
What is missing is who finances construction. According to the Cost, Generation and Transmission Parameters Book of the PDE 2035, released by MME and EPE on 26 November 2025, the reference cost of onshore wind in Brazil is between BRL 5,000 and BRL 7,000 per installed kW, an amount committed before the first kWh.
In self-generation, the industrial consumer becomes a partner in the asset and takes on the share of investment proportional to its stake. Without disclosed capacity, there is no way to size the outlay or the time to entry into operation, and the reduction in the bill only begins when the plant generates.
The source of construction funds and the schedule for entry into operation define when self-generation becomes a cost reduction.
