Electrolysers and the IEA picture for 2026
The reposted material is a market guide on electrolysers, offered as a download, describing the technology as essential to the green hydrogen value chain and pointing to growth driven by industrial adoption, mobility and supportive policy, with estimates for 2025 and projections for 2031.
The figures exist, and they point to the gap between deciding and invoicing. The International Energy Agency, in the Global Hydrogen Review 2026, records installed electrolysis capacity above 4 GW after doubling in 2025, new final investment decisions below 0.8 Mtpa, and a project pipeline shrinking by 10 Mt to 27 Mt by 2030. More than 100 GW of announced capacity could lose the chance of operating by 2030 if decisions are not taken before the end of 2027.
There are two sides. The same IEA records consolidation among manufacturers, with offers below production cost in China, squeezing margins for anyone selling equipment. For a developer with a mature project, that same excess means equipment available and cheaper exactly in the decision window.
Final investment decisions matter, but each project also depends on demand, energy and execution.
